The Indian Association of Chiropractic Doctors (IACD) was accepted as a national member of the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) for India at the WFC meetings in Sydney, June 2005.
Under the Constitution and By-laws of the WFC as well as under the Tokyo Charter of the WFC, activities in India are intended to be vetted through the WFC member national association (IACD). On March 22, 2006, the IACD was officially launched in India in a press release before a news conference team at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel in New Delhi, with the Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Social Welfare, Dr. Yoga Nand Shastri, as the guest speaker. The event was a success, announcing chiropractic as an established form of health care that was now available in India.
The organization also plans on working to attract the many Indian diaspora around the globe, to reconnect with their own roots, and to come help establish chiropractic as a mainstream health-care profession in India. The IACD is also in talks to develop and assist in starting the first accredited chiropractic program in a university in India.
The IACD board and membership currently consists of Canadian, American, British, and Australian chiropractors as well as medical doctors from Canada and the U.S. who believe that there is a need for chiropractic in India. Along with these, the IACD is also working with very prominent surgeons in India who are pushing to expedite legislation for the profession there.
A chiropractor is a health professional. The main form of treatment chiropractors deliver is called an adjustment – a non-invasive procedure consisting of a precise directed movement to help relieve pain and discomfort, and restore range of motion. Sometimes chiropractors will also use other therapies like massage, heat, laser and ultrasound to heal the patients.
At your first visit, your chiropractor will take your complete health history, and will arrive at a working diagnosis after a thorough examination of your neurological, orthopedic, and spinal health. With your consent, they will develop and carry out a comprehensive treatment plan, which may include a variety of non-invasive therapies. Although chiropractors use their hands for most treatments, they also use other methods such as heat, ultrasound, electrotherapy, and other manual methods. Chiropractors are also trained to provide nutritional, dietary, and lifestyle counseling.
Chiropractors are doctors that go through at least four years of professional study, following completion of an undergraduate degree. In order to obtain professional licenses to practice they must also pass rigorous national level examinations. All doctors with the IACD have completed these procedures in order to practice in India. With such an extensive academic and practical background, you can trust your local chiropractor to provide the most efficient and safe treatment available.
